Lagos United Lions Club, under the leadership of lion Elizabeth Oluwaseun Makinde MJF, NLCF understood that being a lion means making an impact through service, being a part of a compassionate community, and knowing that KINDNESS MATTERS. The club prioritizes identifying its community’s most crucial needs and providing humanitarian aid where it’s needed most.
On one of need assessments visit around the communities, the club discovered a couple of schools with different needs and challenges, one of which was Sijuade Nursery and Primary School, ijeshatodo, surulere, Lagos. It was discovered that amongst other pressing needs, they desperately needed a toilet for the little children to defecate in. Immediately the club’s leadership knew they needed to prioritize this school and impact on the lives of these little ones who are the beautiful future of tomorrow.
Every child deserves a clean, safe place to use when nature calls. A good toilet in a nursery and primary school isn’t just a necessity but a fundamental right that uplifts dignity, good health, and the very quality of education itself. Bearing this thought in mind therefore, the club quickly organized a fund raising luncheon for this charitable course, gathered funds from well meaning individuals and organizations with golden hearts in order to quickly come to the aid of this school and its pupils.
It was therefore with great sense of of excitement that at the record time, a standard state of the art block of four (4) toilet facility was constructed and donated for the use of the pupils and staff of Sijuade Nursery and Primary School, Ijeshatedo, Surulere, Lagos state, Nigeria. It was commissioned by the 2023-2024 District Governor of District 404B2 Nigeria, Lion (Prof) Dayo Fagbohun PMJF, NLCF, in the presence of representatives from the local government, education board, parents and teachers of the pupils, eminent lion leaders and friends of the club on the 28th of May, 2024.
This laudable and impactful project came to fruition as a result of teamwork, the dedication and commitment of all club members, the generous donations from friends and families of our great club and the unwavering support of our indefatigable immediate past district governor 404B2 and his team towards the overall growth and success of the club. With regards to our international goal of mission 1.5, the club won the heart of the school’s head teacher and a parent who were both elated at the club’s kind gesture and pledged to becoming members of lions club.
