Ikeja Metro Leo Club, the youth activity of the Ikeja Metro Lion Club, Leo District 404B-2 Nigeria has donated a traffic booth to security officials at the Leventis bus stop in Maryland Ikeja. Leo Omobamidagba Oloruntoba the club president for the 2023/2024 service year while speaking at the commissioning of the legacy project in Ikeja said that the donation was done to help curb the challenge of traffic congestion in the area and also to support the activities of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other traffic officials in ensuring safety of the road users and the officials.
He said Leo is the youth activity of the Lion club which is a service organization. Leo Omobamidagba also said that the area was chosen in recognition of the challenging conditions faced by traffic officials who work tirelessly to ensure there is free flow of vehicular and human movement in the area. “We are here to commission our legacy project which is the donation of traffic shield for LASTMA and other traffic officials in order to protect them from accident, curb traffic congestion and ensure free flow of traffic in this area.” He said.
Also, Leo Adewale Tolulope, the legacy Project Chairman for Ikeja Metro Leo Club said that the shield will protect the officials and serve as covering for them especially during this rainy season. “That is the little we can do and we choose this environment because we find out that nothing of such is here and we have the officials around who control the traffic here. “There is no shield or covering for the officials working at this spot that is why we felt it will be good if we provide one for them here,” he said.
The Club’s President while speaking on other activities carried out by the club during the service year said that various empowerments was done in parts of the state which include; training on how to make and package soap, where over 200 people benefited in Makoko area of Lagos. He also said that screen printing training on how to print on T-shirts was done in the area for youths, so as to enable them to be self reliant. He also said during the service year, the club also purchased JAMB forms for indigent students who their parents could not afford the form and that club organized classes to prepare them for the examination. From the information received, majority of youth did well in the examination which gladdened the heart of the Leos.
Leo Omobamidagba also said that the club sponsored yellow house during the inter house sports of Ojodu primary school recently and that it also visited the juvenile correctional center in Lagos to donate slippers for the boys there. “We did several other projects during the service year and one thing about us is that, Lion is all about service, we are doing this because we love to serve. Service is from the heart and we will keep serving.
“We are happy doing this, putting smiles of the faces of the less privilege, despite the challenge of funds due to the economic situation of the country. We resolved that we will not relent in touching lives.” He added.
