Traders and community members of Ipodo market, Ikeja Lagos have expressed joy over the sensitization and Free Screening Exercise on Blood Sugar, Malaria, Blood Pressure Check and Diabetes Awareness Campaign tests brought to them by the Lagos Pacific Lions club.

Speaking at the event, the market union leader Mrs. Abiodun Apena said: “I am so happy to see the program brought here for my people, Ignorance and late detection kill faster than the disease itself, we are grateful to the Lions club for saving lives through their free awareness and drugs dispensing initiative.”

The club’s President, Lion Dr, Rasaq Anita Yemisi MJF NLCF said the club appreciates and applauds the traders for prioritizing their health and attending the free medical campaign and screening exercise adding  that Lions club will not relent in creating more awareness on diabetes as this is part of the core activity of Lions club International this service year.

The guest speaker, Dr. Amina Ahmad, who is also a Director, Medical Services & Disease Control LS Health said that most diabetic and high blood pressure patients were ignorant of the disease as it’s a silent killer. “It is better to be aware so that they can live longer. These are diseases that can take you unawares but when you know it is easier to prevent and when you prevent it and even when you are aware that you have it, it is that easy to manage. On its own, it is manageable when it is detected early but becomes an emergency when detected late,” she said.

The high point of the campaign was the free screening and drug dispensing to traders and members of the community with diabetes and malaria while low and high sugar levels were counselled.
