 Lions Clubs District 404 B2 Nigeria on the 12th of August, 2024 hosted a highly successful International Youth Day event at the Ikeja Business Club, CBD Alausa Ikeja, drawing over 100 youths, including Leos and community members. The event, themed “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health,” aimed to inspire young people to engage in agriculture as a means to drive sustainable food systems and combat unemployment.
District Governor Lion Tolulope Senbanjo PMJF, NLCF, set the tone for the event by emphasizing the importance of making agriculture attractive to today’s youth. “We must reshape the perception of agriculture from a last resort to a first choice for our young people,” He urged, highlighting the sector’s potential to ensure food security and economic stability.
The event, moderated by *Lion Seun Onigbinde MJF, NLCF, featured key industry leaders who shared valuable insights. Mr. Steve Okeleji, CEO of Aquatic Hub Afrique Network, addressed the Federal Government’s subsidy removal policy, describing it as an opportunity for agricultural growth. He pointed out that Nigeria’s vast arable land offers significant potential for youth-driven agricultural innovation.
Mr. Femi Adekoya, MD/Founder of Integrated Precision, discussed the critical role of precision agriculture in modern farming. He emphasized that technology is a game-changer for farmers, enabling them to scale production efficiently and sustainably. “This is a prime opportunity for young people to lead the charge in transforming agriculture,” Adekoya remarked.
Mr. Samson Ogbole contributed by focusing on the integration of technology into agricultural practices, encouraging the youth to drive the transition to more sustainable and productive farming methods.
Representing the Lagos State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Lekan delivered a keynote address urging the youth to view agriculture as a viable pathway to a self-sufficient future.  He said “Agriculture is not just about farming; it’s about securing your future in an industry that is vital to our nation’s growth”.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from *Leo District President Leo Samson Kayode, who expressed gratitude to the District Governor and Lions District 404B2 Nigeria for organizing such a powerful and impactful program. “This event has empowered us, the Leos and the youth, with the knowledge and inspiration to take actionable steps in transforming our food systems,” according to Leo Kayode.
