Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela. As students returned to school, this quote reminds us of the immense potential that learning and growth hold for shaping the future. As a leading humanitarian organization, the Lions Club pride itself in making contributions that aid education and support students across the world.

As part of its September activities, Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club donated textbooks, exercise books, mathematical sets, writing pads, textbooks, pens, pencils, stationary materials, and other educational materials to about 1000 pupils in St Peters Anglican Primary School, Agidingbi primary School and Adeniyi Jones Primary School all in Ikeja, Lagos. The club had earlier distributed free school uniforms and school bags to various government-owned primary schools in the area.

According to club president, Lion Adeola Boluogun, the gesture was part of the club’s way of commemorating this year’s World Literacy Day, which also coincides with the ‘Back to school’ season. The club in its usual manner understand the immense potential that learning and growth hold for shaping the future, hence the goal of holding this unique “Back to School” project every year.

According to the president Lion Adeola Boluogun NLCF, every year the club extends this gesture to schools within the Ikeja axis. Last year the club was at Agidingbi Primary School, giving books directly to the pupils and equipping the school library. The club also expressed sincere appreciation to LearnAfrica, which he said responded to its request for support by donating some textbooks.

International Literacy Day is celebrated on September 8, of every year. The aim is to raise awareness and concern for literacy problems that exist within local communities as well as globally. One of the pupils who spoke at the event, Grace Alonge, expressed her appreciation to Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club for the gifts. According to her, this will go a long way in assisting students with their studies.
