Clubs in District 404B2 organized a diabetes awareness campaign in Surulere, Lagos State on the 16th of November, 2024. The event was aimed to educate residents on early detection and treatment of diabetes, marking the 2024 International Diabetes Day. The theme was “Diabetes and Wellness.”
Clubs that participated in the collaborative project include Ikeja Lions Club who led the initiative, Ikeja Pearl, Lagos Hallmark, Lagos Exquisite, Ilupeju Diamond, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Ideal, Alausa SDEF, Lagos Esteem, Ilupeju, Maryland Royal, Lagos Marvel, Ikeja Dynamic, Lagos Marvel, Lagos United, Lagos Pelican, Lagos Imperial, Lagos Metropolitan, Lagos Central, Lagos Elite, and Ikeja Aviation Lions Clubs.
Activities at the event included Fitness walk around the National Stadium, Aerobics session, Tennis exhibition game, Blood pressure checks, Eye Screening, Distribution of eye glasses and medications to residents with eye defects or reading difficulties and Distribution of informative fliers, food, and fruits.
A presentation on healthy eating and exercise habits to prevent diabetes was also delivered. Members of the public and attendees were encouraged to continue exercising and to visit Primary Healthcare Centres across Lagos State for affordable vital checks emphasizing on the importance of regular exercise and healthy eating.
The event successfully promoted diabetes awareness and encouraged healthy lifestyles among Surulere residents and visitors.
