The Lions Quest Teachers Training Workshop is part of the Lions Quest program, a global initiative by Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). It focuses on life skills education to support the development of children and youth, typically from kindergarten to grade 12.
District 404B2 on the 16th of December to 18th of December, 2024 held the first ever Lions Quest Teachers Training Workshop themed organized in the District tagged “Skills for Growing.” The training workshop is designed to empower teachers with tools and strategies to implement Lions Quest programs in schools.
The workshops emphasize:
- Social and Emotional Learning (SEL): Teaching skills like self-awareness, empathy, decision-making, and effective communication.
- Positive Behavior Development: Encouraging responsible behavior and building positive relationships among students.
- Creating a Safe Learning Environment: Helping teachers foster supportive, inclusive, and respectful classrooms.
- Preventing Risky Behaviors: Addressing issues like bullying, substance abuse, and peer pressure.
The activity saw to the training of teachers and staff of Just Smart Kiddies Academy and Happy Day School both in Lagos Nigeria as well as Lions members. Key Features of the Workshop include;
- Interactive Sessions: Teachers engage in hands-on activities to understand life skills education methodologies.
- Lesson Planning: Training on how to integrate Lions Quest curriculum into daily teaching.
- Collaboration: Encouraging partnerships between schools, parents, and communities.
- Focus on Character Development: Promoting values like respect, kindness, and responsibility.
Present at the workshop to train teachers and Lions are PCC Kola Oyekanmi; MD404 Lions Quest Coordinator who was ably assisted by District Governor Folasade shotomide of Lions District 404A3, Lion TPL Soledotun Abdulkarim-Yusuf and District Governor Tolulope Senbanjo.
Lions Quest programs are used worldwide, helping teachers and schools equip students with critical life skills to lead healthier, more productive lives. It is often conducted in partnership with local Lions Clubs, and schools benefit from expert guidance and ongoing support. The 3 day training was enlightening and educative. Teachers were empowered with the necessary skills to effectively coach and subsequently train the students and the young ones in the community.
A special appreciation goes to Lion Kemi Badmos the proprietress of Happy Days School not only for the warm embrace and for accepting to open the school doors for the training but most importantly for bringing Jums smart kiddies academy alongside to share in the Lions quest curriculum. A big congratulations to the Lions Quest team ably led by Lion Juliet Onwaeze , Lion Adedeji Olukokun, Lion Hassan Olapeju and Lion Pius Bonnie for a job well done
