Empowering Communities through Service

Hunger

Lions strive to improve food security and access to nutritious food to help alleviate hunger. A staggering number of 815 million people were affected by hunger in 2016, that accounts for 11% of the global population. Also 155 million children under age five are stunted due to chronic malnutrition, 33% of women of reproductive age suffer from anaemia and 1/3 of annual food production is lost or wasted throughout the supply chain. In the Lions Club, we see how the global hunger and nutrition crisis bears upon our local communities and our strategic objective is to ensure all community members have access to nutritious food.

Vision

It is a fact that 253 million people are blind or have moderate to severe distance vision impairment (MSVI), 1.1 billion have near-vision impairment simply because they don’t have a pair of glasses, Over 75% of all blindness and MSVI is avoidable and 89% of people with visual impairment live in developing countries. That is why in the Lions Club we help prevent avoidable blindness and improve quality of life for people who are blind or visually impaired

Diabetes

Diabetes is a global epidemic that touches every corner of the globe. An estimated 463 million adults across the world are living with diabetes, and its prevalence is increasing rapidly. By 2045, the number is expected to reach 700 million. 1 in 5 people above 65 years old have diabetes and diabetes accounted for 4.2 million deaths in 2019.

Lions Clubs International and LCIF are dedicated to empowering Lions and Leos around the world to fight diabetes by serving their communities one by one. With the support of Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), Lions are working to reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve the quality of life for those living with diabetes.

Childhood Cancer

400,000 children are diagnosed annually of childhood cancer and 9 in 10 diagnosed children live in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Less than 30% of children with cancer in LMICs survive, compared to about 80% in high-income countries. Hence We provide support for the needs of children and families affected by childhood cancer

Environment

We find ways to protect the environment to create healthier communities and a more sustainable world. We encourage Lions to get involved in environment service areas that will help achieve the UN sustainable development goals by engaging in activities such as tree planting/tree care, environmental cleanup and restoration, recycling and waste management, environmental awareness, education and advocacy and through clean water and sanitation programs

Humanitarian Services

Humanitarian spirit is at the core of every Lion, the humanitarian efforts of Lions have been notable and celebrated for more than 100 years. Working together, Lions identify the world’s most crucial needs and provide humanitarian aid where it’s needed most.

Disaster Relief

Whenever and wherever disaster strikes, Lions are often among the first to offer aid. According to data and statistics,. 90% of all natural disasters are water-related, 25.3 million people are displaced each year by sudden disasters and annual economic losses due to natural disasters are estimated at US$250B-US$300B.. Hence we as Lions take steps to meet immediate needs and provide long term support for communities devastated by natural disasters. With a disaster grant given by our foundation LCIF, we are able to do even more for communities devastated by hurricanes, floods, fires and other major events.

Youth

We support young people so they can make positive choices, have healthy and productive lives and become the next generation of service leaders. Young people are a dynamic force for good. We’re more than a century into service, and committed as ever to sustaining our impact over the next 100 years. That’s why we devote ourselves to serving youth as beneficiaries, youth as partners, and empowering youth as service leaders. Across all our Global Causes, we remain committed to serving children and youth. Practically, we improve existing programs through the development of new initiatives that increase impact.

Most importantly we unleash the leadership and potential of youths in our community because we believe young people are global changemakers, their fresh perspectives and insights drive change in our organization, in their communities and in the world
